A transitional housing community designed with 108 nos. of MIC units and 2 nos. of in-situ accessible units.

Considering the restricted site area, ease of construction, sequence of installation and costs, the module size was designed as 3.1m x 5.5m.

The factory production of the MIC units runs in parallel with the in-situ works such as corridor, staircase and plant rooms on site to fast track  overall construction time.

Using enclosed kitchen instead of open kitchen and keeping the building under 4 storeys,  the fire services installation could be greatly simplified in accordance to the fire code. It also resulted in costs and construction time benefits while bringing better convenience to tenants as well as improving living standard.

The steel MIC modules were designed for easy dismantle, facilitating transportation and re-usable considerations.

Adopting MiC to Build Light Public Housing (LPH) to Expedite Housing Supply

The Policy Address 2022 announced the construction of LPH. The LPH Scheme is led by the Architectural Services Department with the adoption of MiC. The Housing Bureau has selected eight sites in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Ma On Shan, Kai Tak, Ngau Tau Kok and Chai Wai, providing around 30,000 LPH units. The construction period takes only one to two years. Each units equipped with self-contained toilet and basic facilities such as water heater and air-con. The first batch of around 2,100 units will be completed in 2024-25 and the remaining units will be completed by phases in 2025-26 and 2026-27, so as to shorten the waiting time of public housing.
