Q1. What is the detailing for prevention of rust, condensation and structural inspection?

A1.

It is the choice of the MiC designer/vendor to specify the details to meet the statutory requirements. Some samples are on display at the MiC display centre. You are welcome to visit the MiC Resources Centre.

Q2. Is there any difference between MiC and conventional construction method in terms of maintenance and warranty?

A2.

It mainly depends on the design approach, MiC system and the corresponding statutory requirements which govern the miantenance regime. Samples of maintenance provisions and solution can be found in the MiC Resources Centre.

Q3. Use of wider modules give more flexibility in design. Other than the Wide Load Permit issue, what other issue such as the noise permit issue should be considered?

A3.

It is recommended that the design consultants in deciding on the size of modules, in particular the width, shall take into account the holistic logistics planning to identify all constraints to fulfill the statutory requirements which include but not limited to the temporary traffic impact assessment, swept path analysis, permissible operation duration on site, optimal layout of intended usage, modularization strategy.

Q4. Is it financially viable to design steel modules for use in cavern with a 4-hr Fire Resistance Rating, particularly for joint and bolting?

A4.

Different fire protection systems have been approved which are able to achieve the 4-hrs Fire Resistance Rating to protect the structural elements according to the latest building regulations.

Adopting MiC to Build Light Public Housing (LPH) to Expedite Housing Supply

The Policy Address 2022 announced the construction of LPH. The LPH Scheme is led by the Architectural Services Department with the adoption of MiC. The Housing Bureau has selected eight sites in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Ma On Shan, Kai Tak, Ngau Tau Kok and Chai Wai, providing around 30,000 LPH units. The construction period takes only one to two years. Each units equipped with self-contained toilet and basic facilities such as water heater and air-con. The first batch of around 2,100 units will be completed in 2024-25 and the remaining units will be completed by phases in 2025-26 and 2026-27, so as to shorten the waiting time of public housing.
