GBA High Productivity Construction Visit

Ir Thomas HO, Chairman and Ir Albert CHENG, Executive Director of the CIC led the industry practitioners for a 3-day visit to the high productivity construction factories and projects in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), including visiting to the factory of China State Construction Hailong Technology Company Limited, Far East Façade (Zhuhai) Company Limited, China Overseas Innovation & Technology (Zhuhai) Company Limited, OPTIMIX Manufacturing Plant, CIMC Modular Construction Investment Company Limited and AluHouse Company Limited, and the first 100 metre high high-rise concrete MiC affordable housing project in Mainland China, the Residential Project in Lunghua District in Shenzhen. 
 

The visit provided an opportunity for the industry practitioners to understand the development and the future trends of the high productivity construction (HPC) supply chain in the GBA, experience various digital and automated production technologies and equipment, and witness the successful example of MiC projects in the Mainland China.  It demonstrated that HPC, including MiC, could be widely adopted in Hong Kong by its broad and practical nature.

Adopting MiC to Build Light Public Housing (LPH) to Expedite Housing Supply

The Policy Address 2022 announced the construction of LPH. The LPH Scheme is led by the Architectural Services Department with the adoption of MiC. The Housing Bureau has selected eight sites in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Ma On Shan, Kai Tak, Ngau Tau Kok and Chai Wai, providing around 30,000 LPH units. The construction period takes only one to two years. Each units equipped with self-contained toilet and basic facilities such as water heater and air-con. The first batch of around 2,100 units will be completed in 2024-25 and the remaining units will be completed by phases in 2025-26 and 2026-27, so as to shorten the waiting time of public housing.
